Sometimes mother nature has a bit of fun while creating life, and with this unique kitty, she went above and beyond. Meet Frankie, the cat with 4 ears and one eye.
A family found two kittens sleeping under their house and immediately brought the stray kittens inside to care for them. Frankie and his brother were looked after by the family before they were taken to the Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS), in Victoria, Australia, where they could get the medical attention they needed.
Little Frankie (named lovingly after Frankenstein) had an infected eye, not to mention four ears, and went straight into surgery to remove the eye. After surgery, he was brought home by an employee called Georgi, so that he could have a comfortable recovery.
But Georgi quickly fell in love with the affectionate cat and decided that she couldn’t bear to send him back to the shelter.
Within a couple of hours of him being at home, I realised there was something special about him and couldn’t bear the thought of taking him back.
In her time working at the shelter, Georgi had fostered close to 80 cats and kittens just within the past year, but Frankie was the one cat that she had trouble giving back. So she made the decision to adopt him.
It turned out that Frankie’s extra ears are caused by a genetic deformity, which also gives him an overbite. He will likely need teeth removed in the future in order to avoid them growing into the roof of his mouth.
With the amount of healthcare that Frankie required it would be difficult for Georgi to be able to afford it all. But thankfully GAWS is providing for his medical expenses, including his surgery and aftercare, as they believe “every life is precious”.
And Georgi isn’t the only person to fall in love with little Frankie. Her son, Arthur, has become Frankie’s best friend, and the snuggly cat loves to spend time with people. Georgi took him to visit an old lady on her 90th birthday, and she was so happy to see the unusual cat that she couldn’t stop cuddling him. It seems Frankie is a little heart stealer…
Frankie continuously returns the love and affection that he has been given by his caregivers, and loves nothing more than to cuddle up with his favourite humans.
Although Frankie’s genetic condition is rare, there are numerous cats with his condition that have managed to find loving rescuers and homes. Thanks to kind people who can see past differences, cats like Frankie continue to get the love and care that they deserve.
Every cat deserves a chance at happiness and with Frankie, there’s just more of him to love. – Jessica of Cole & Marmalade
